How-to: Calculate Dimensional Weight for your Package
The dimensional weight of your package takes into account the length, width and height of the package that you are shipping. Below are formulas which show you how to calculate dimensional weight for your packages for the three couriers – Purolator, UPS and FedEx. Each one is a little different all following a similar concept.
Purolator
Air Services – for inches: L x W x H /1728 x 15
Air Services – for cm: L x W x H /28316 x 15
Ground Services – for inches: L x W x H //1728 x 10
Ground Services – for cm: L x W x H /28316 x 10
NOTE: If your shipment is not a long haul (such as Toronto to Montreal) even though the quote may say Express, the shipment will be travelling Ground and the Ground rate will apply. For a long haul shipment (such as Toronto to British Columbia) you will have an option to choose Ground or Express. In the case you choose Express your shipment will be travelling by Air and the Air Service rate will apply.
UPS
Air Services – for inches: L x W x H / 139
Air Services – for cm: L x W x H / 5000
Ground Services – for inches: L x W x H / 166
Ground Services – for cm: L x W x H / 6000
FedEx
Domestic Air Services – for inches: L x W x H / 166
Domestic Air Services – for cm: L x W x H / 6000
Ground Services – for inches: L x W x H / 166
